We, the undersigned, are extremely concerned that the SNP Government have put our ferry service out to tender. We are concerned that CalMac are in competition with SERCO for the 8year, £1bn contract, when SERCO have a history of cutting ‘non-profitable’ ferry crossings. If SERCO win the bid it could put the jobs of many residents in Cunninghame North, and the crossings to Arran and Cumbrae, at risk. We support Scottish Labour's campaigning to keep CalMac in public hands because our ferries are a lifeline, not a luxury. We call upon the current SNP administration, and whichever party wins the election in May, to use the powers of the Parliament and the Teckal ruling to halt the tendering process and protect this lifeline service.
